What To Expect When You Attend An Appointment…

Once you’ve arrived for your first session at Whitstable Physiotherapy Clinic, expect a professional and friendly welcome. Come about 10 minutes early for your first appointment so that you can read our privacy policy and sign a consent form. Your first session will last approximately 45 minutes and we will conduct a thorough assessment. Please bring a list of any prescribed medication you are taking, copies of any x-ray/scan reports and doctors letters. We will ask you for the details of your symptoms and we will perform a thorough examination of the area/s affected in order to reach a diagnosis about the source of your problem, which we will explain. We will formulate a treatment plan with you and give you exercises/advice that you can put into place immediately. The aim of a customised rehabilitation programme is to achieve the maximum potential recovery and a return to normal daily living activities. Remember you always have the right to decline any part or the whole of the treatment offered. Your progress and response to treatment will be closely monitored and any changes to the treatment will be discussed.

Depending on the injury site, you may need to undress to allow us to examine the area fully and carry out a thorough examination. This may also include examining the joint above and below the area. For this reason, please attend the appointment wearing suitable clothing. We advise wearing well-fitting underwear or bring a pair of shorts. In order for the therapist to assess and treat your condition, it is likely that they will need to have close contact with you. It is essential that you discuss any issues with the therapist if you are uncomfortable with the assessment or treatment. We operate in a professional manner and will always respect your wishes – you are welcome to be accompanied by a family member or friend to act as a chaperone. If the appointment is for a child under 16 a parent or guardian must accompany them. Each subsequent treatment session lasts 30 minutes. We will offer you appointment times to fit in with your schedule.
